Hummer HX Concept

With its unique design and a compact Hummer, go-anywhere driving ethic, the HUMMER HX concept challenges the hierarchy of the track. HUMMER displayed the nimble, reconfigurable off-road in the Salon of 2008 North American International Auto.

More compact than a HUMMER H3 - 81 inches (2057 mm) wide with a wheelbase of 103 inches (2616 mm) - the HX concept is an open air, two-door off-road vehicle that packs off-road feel is HUMMER legendary, with an easily convertible body that acclimates to varied trail conditions, cargo needs or passenger whims. Its design is based on ideas developed by a trio of young designers who are new to the HUMMER studio.

"The HX is HUMMER's vision an agile, trail ready, open-air vehicle that fits the lifestyle of those who need or want to drive off-road," said Martin Walsh, General Manager HUMMER. "Of course, carries exceptional off-road capability and distinctive style, which all Hummers are known."

The HX offers an open-air driving experience via a pair of removable roof panels above the driver and front passenger, and a modular, removable rear roof. With the roof panels and roof, the HX becomes a true convertible.

Easy to remove the roof panels and rear roof allows the rapid conversion of a closed vehicle open. The HX also was designed a series of figures, so this is a versatile vehicle, it can be configured to SUT (with the roof removed), an elegant Slant-back or a traditional, wagon-like design that offers space load a little 'more.

External targeted

The design of the HX was driven by input from three young designers who were new to GM and the HUMMER design studio. As part of their "initiation", they were responsible for developing designs for a smaller, younger HUMMER and the HX is a direct result of their creativity. The HX concept is based on a designer original illustrations, but incorporates the best ideas and elements from other designs.
"HUMMER appeals to young people around the world and served as a perfect job for our first new talent," said Ed Welburn, vice president of Global Design. "Today's graduates in design schools are ready to start running. The HUMMER design challenge gave our newest designers an opportunity to race."

Inside and out, the HX view purposeful aesthetic that, from the original project ran out of clay models, developed, only six months.

"This is the Hummer design language reduced to the essence," said David Rojas, creative designer. "The HX has an aggressive appearance and great proportions, with beauty lying in its functional austerity."

Outside, the theme of light and is reflected in the appearance of exposed suspension components including billet aluminum CNC relieves lighting, cleaning and adjustment, bodywork and minimal trim. The theme is a bit to the extreme when the roof panels, roof, fender flares and doors are removed.

Indexes classic HUMMER design for HX instantly recognizable, including round headlamps located in square housings, windshield law profile, minimal overhangs, hood vents and prominent air intakes. The air intakes are functional and feed a V-6 engine under the hood while the hood vents are active - they articulate to allow hot air to escape under the hood.

And while the headlamps and grille are clearly HUMMER rates have evolved on the HX with a "chopped circle" motif. Slots grille and headlights, as well as elements of its interior, have the appearance of circles or ovals that have been cut at the top and bottom, creating a unique appearance that speaks to the aesthetics of deliberate vehicle.

"The 'cut' circles are larger, heavy components that were trimmed to meet the compact HX," said Rojas.

And while it is unadorned foreign decorations, outside HX is equipped with features that speak to HUMMER legacy of technology and innovation, including HID headlamps with focusing rings that adjust automatically when switched on - just like the self-made Focus SLR camera type. LED technology is used in lamps blinkers front and rear lights.

Inspired interiors Aeronautically

Seating plane of inspiration for integrated, off-road-ready tools, the HUMMER HX inner beauty that lies in his deliberate intention. It was inspired by the functional elements and light in the plane.

"Aeronautical parts are designed for both light and strong, that is the feeling exuded by the HX's cabin," said Stuart Norris, interior design director. "There is no point in a cut or appearance - it is an appropriate design that convey beauty through strength."
Strengthening stripped of essence feel, matte olive color was moved inside largely covered with sheet metal panels. The color is accented with pressed or extruded aluminum components, such as handles, switches and other necessary components.

Promote aviation influence the dashboard, which uses a presentation of extruded aluminum cross-vehicle beam from its foundation. In the bar, the instrument panel and other vital controls are mounted, and also has a range of unique retreat that offers greater storage capacity.

"The dashboard is an element of style for the HX, and removing the top cover reveals a design ethic that enhances the design side of the base vehicle," says Norris. "With the cover removed, the interior is expressed more of a basic essence - and the structure beneath the cover is beautiful for those who appreciate finely crafted metal."

A rubberized floor and ballistic nylon-material covering on the instrument panel and other interior components reinforces the functional aesthetic.

Seating and console details

Like aircraft seats, the HX seats are built on a lightweight framework with minimal components that have holes strength improves lighting and appliances or triangulations. They are mounted on exposed, aircraft-style tracks and trimmed with a waterproof neoprene material.

The HX seats four, a pair of bucket-type seats in the second row. The rear seats mimic the front seats can be removed from the design and generate more cargo space. All seats have four-point racing style seat belts.

The inner ring of the seat in the front seats is located beneath the outer edges of a center console in sight. The console offers exceptional storage capability and houses a single lever goes down and the road when the vehicle is parked - also hiding it the engine start button. Spring has a deck that appears when the controller is ready to select a gear.

The console also houses a place to relax phones, MP3 players and iPod or iPhone. In fact, there is no conventional radio HX-only speakers. Passengers can connect an iPod or similar device, the USB connector to play music in the HX.

"From the console to the cargo space behind the seats, there are simply opportunities for storage in the HX indescribable," said Norris. "It's like a backpack with four wheels and is equipped with needs."

DARPA Selects XC2V to Replace HUMVEEs [with Video)

The trusted HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), or as the troops (and everyone else) understandably calls it, Humvee, is getting a little long in the tooth, having entered service for the first time in 1984.
So it’s reasonable that DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) started looking for a suitable, and more up-to-date replacement with the Experimental Crowd-derived Combat Support Vehicle project –or, in civilian-speak, “the first crowd-sourced, military relevant vehicle design”.

Top Gear Season 17 Episode 1 Starts with a Blast: Forget about the Hummer, Meet the Marauder [Video]

Yesterday we brought you news about the first episode of the seventh season of BBC’s Top Gear TV series which aired last night featuring the Paramount Group’s Marauder. The South African-built armored vehicle was driven by TG presenter Richard Hammond in its native country.
However, “driven” is an understatement, since Hammond made the Marauder flatten cars, smash through walls and defy lion attacks. He also took a bright red one for a drive around Johannesburg, creating quite a fuss.

Hummer HX Concept, 2008

Hummer HX Concept, 2008

With its unmistakable HUMMER design and a compact, go-anywhere driving ethic, the HUMMER HX concept challenges the hierarchy of the trail. HUMMER displayed the nimble, reconfigurable off-roader at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.

More compact than a HUMMER H3 - 81 inches (2,057 mm) wide, with a 103-inch wheelbase (2,616-mm) - the HX concept is an open-air, two-door off-road vehicle that packs the off-road acumen for which HUMMER has become legendary, along with an easily convertible body that acclimates to varied trail conditions, cargo needs or passenger whims. Its design is based on the ideas developed by a trio of young designers who are new to the HUMMER studio.
The HX offers an open-air driving experience via a pair of removable roof panels above the driver and front passenger, and a modular, removable rear roof assembly. With the roof panels and roof assembly removed, the HX is transformed into a true convertible.

Easy removal of the roof panels and rear-roof assembly enables quick conversion from a closed vehicle to an open one. The HX also was designed with several roof assemblies, allowing this versatile vehicle to be configured as an SUT (with the roof assembly removed), a stylish slant-back or a traditional, wagon-like design that offers a bit more cargo space.

The HX was shown with a slant-back configuration, wearing a desert-inspired matte olive paint scheme, at the North American International Auto Show. Additional convertible features include:
    * Removable doors - easily removable pins in the exposed hinges allow the doors to be removed quickly - an appreciated feature of many serious off-roaders
    * Removable fender flares - attached with quarter-turn quick-release fasteners, the composite fender flares can be quickly removed for additional trail/rock clearance, or if the flare is damaged during off-road driving

Purposeful exterior
The design of the HX was driven by input from three young designers who were new to GM and the HUMMER design studio. As part of their "initiation," they were charged with developing concept drawings for a smaller, youthful HUMMER and the HX is a direct result of their creativity. The HX concept is based on one of the designers' original illustrations, but incorporates the best ideas and elements from the other designs.

Inside and out, the HX carries a purposeful aesthetic that, from initial sketches to finalized clay models, was refined in only six months.
On the exterior, the lightweight theme is evidenced in the appearance of exposed, billet aluminum suspension components that feature CNC-machined lightening relieves, as well as clean, unadorned bodywork and minimal trim. The lightweight theme is taken to its extreme when the roof panels, roof assembly, fender flares and doors are removed.

Classic HUMMER design cues make the HX instantly recognizable, including the round headlamps located in square housings, an upright windshield profile, minimal overhangs, hood vents and prominent air intakes. The air intakes are functional and feed a V-6 engine beneath the hood, while the hood vents are active - they articulate to allow hot underhood air to escape.

And while the headlamps and grille are clearly HUMMER cues, they've evolved on the HX with a "chopped circle" motif. The grille slots and headlamps, as well as elements on the interior, have the appearance of circles or ovals that have been clipped at the top and bottom, creating a unique appearance that speaks to the vehicle's purposeful aesthetic.

And while it is unadorned by extraneous embellishments, the HX's exterior is nonetheless outfitted with features that speak to HUMMER's legacy of technology and innovation, including HID headlamps with focusing rings that adjust automatically when they're turned on - much like the lens of an auto-focus SLR-type camera. LED technology is used for the front turn signal lamps and taillamps.

Aeronautically inspired interior
From aircraft-inspired seats to integrated, off-road-ready tools, the HUMMER HX's interior has a beauty that lies in its purposeful intent. It was inspired by the functional and lightweight elements found in aircraft.
Reinforcing the stripped-to-the-essence feel, the exterior's matte olive color carries over onto the interior's largely sheet metal-covered panels. The color is accented with pressed or extruded aluminum components, such as the handles, switches and other necessary parts.

Furthering the aeronautical influence is the instrument panel, which uses an exposed, extruded aluminum cross-vehicle beam as its foundation. On the beam, the instrument cluster and other vital controls are mounted; and it also features a unique, removal top cover that provides significant storage capability.
A rubberized floor and ballistic nylon-material covering on the instrument panel and other interior components reinforces the functional aesthetic.

Seating and console details
Like aircraft seats, the HX's seats are constructed on a lightweight framework with minimal components that feature lightening holes and strength-enhancing cross braces or triangulations. They are mounted on exposed, aircraft-style tracks and trimmed with a weather-resistant neoprene material.

The HX seats four, with a pair of bucket-type seats in the second row. The rear seats mimic the front seats' design and can be removed to generate more cargo room. All the seats feature a four-point, racing-style safety harness.
The inner seat track on both front seats is located beneath the outer edges of a prominent center console. The console offers exceptional storage capability and houses a unique shifter that mounts low and out of the way when the vehicle is parked - also hiding from sight the engine starter button. It has a spring-loaded cover that pops up when the driver is ready to select a gear.

The console also houses a resting place for phones, MP3 player and iPods or iPhones. In fact, there is no conventional radio in the HX, only integrated speakers. Passengers plug in an iPod, or similar device, to a USB connector to play music in the HX.

Gauges and tools
The "cut-off circles" motif of the exterior is seen even more so on the HX's interior, as the gauge cluster, instrument panel vents and even the steering wheel carry the design element.
A three-element gauge cluster - each of the three instrument "pods" carries the cut-off circle design - delivers crucial driver information in either a highway or off-road mode. This conceptual reconfigurable gauge layout uses LCD screens with multiple layouts, including a navigation system. The nav system features GPS and compass information; and is designed to upload trail information before setting off on an excursion.

The center gauge pod houses a speedometer and tachometer, but changes to a wheel angle indicator when the transmission is in the low position. This off-road mode changeover from the highway mode gives the driver information that is more pertinent to the driver conditions. The trail view of a camera mounted in the rear-view mirror can be displayed on the instrument panel, too.

The off-road mode features of the instrument panel comprise the virtual tools of the HX, while others are mounted for physical use, including a folding shovel, flashlight and first-aid kit. They all carry the "clipped circle" design motif found throughout the vehicle.

Ready for rocks, trails and more
With its compact dimensions, almost no overhangs and grippy 35-inch tires, the HX is ready for all terrains. Like all HUMMER production models, the HX has sturdy, body-on-frame construction, onto which is mounted front and rear independent suspensions.

The front suspension features an electronic-disconnecting stabilizer bar for enhanced maneuverability when driving off road, and the rear suspension is located with Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC)-machined, billet trailing arms. Heavy-duty shocks with piggyback reservoirs were custom-made for the HX by renowned racing shock manufacturer Fox; one is mounted at each wheel position.

A full-time 4WD system pulls the HX over, through and around off-road obstacles. It transfers torque to the front and rear axles, each of which is equipped with a locking differential. The torque meets the trail via custom 35-inch-tall off-road tires that are mounted on a set of custom, bead-lock-style wheels that have a two-tone appearance; dark-painted wheel centers complemented by silver-anodized outer rims.

A complete underbody armor kit, including a front skid plate, powetrain protection and more, protects the HX from wayward rocks and other potentially damaging objects. A power-operated winch is located in the front bumper, and the HX has recovery hooks mounted on the front and rear bumpers, just in case its help is required for wrangling others out of unfortunate off-road situations.
Motivation for the HX comes from an E85 FlexFuel 3.6L SIDI V-6 that is backed by a six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is teamed with the 4WD system to offer exceptional low-speed traction and crawling capability. Four-wheel-disc brakes provide confident stopping power.

2011 Hummer H1 Car Prices and specification with wallpapers
The Hummer H1 is a civilian off-road vehicle based on the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (or Humvee), which was created by AM General. The Hummer H1 has three common variants: a convertible-like soft top, a four-door hard top Sport Utility Truck and an Alpha Wagon body version.

Hummer H2

The Hummer H2 is a massive SUV, which comes with exceptional off-road handling capabilities and amazing facilities. The regular H2 models have been marketed with five to six-passenger carrying capacity, while the custom built commercial Hummer H2 limos can carry up to a dozen of passengers effortlessly.
The regular H2 comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, Bose audio system, leather upholstery, full power front seats with a lumbar adjustment, heated seats, keyless entry, underbody skid plates, OnStar mechanism, locking rear differential and the powerful 315/70R17 all-terrain tires. However, the commercial Hummer limos are even equipped with mini-bars, dance floors, disco lights, Plasma TVs, home theatre systems and everything that you may dream of. Consequently, they're extremely popular for rentals to have fun of a lifetime.
But, the biggest downside to the H2 vehicles is their horrendous gas mileage, which comes to about 9.2 mpg overall. Far worse, you can't take it anywhere you want, and parking within city garages can be a big issue.
Optionally, one can also find additional goodies like third-row seat (to improve the passenger carrying capacity to 6), tubular side steps, brushed-aluminum roof rack, satellite radio etc. with the performance packages like the Adventure Series.

Under the hood, this gigantic vehicle derives 325 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque from the 6.0-liter V8 engine, and when you look at its gear selector you get a feeling as though it were lifted from fighter plane.
You get excellent ground clearance, aggressive tires, and plenty of grip, though the weight of the vehicle rounds of the power delivered by the V6; above all you got to shell out over $60,000, and hell a lot of money on gas refill every single time. So, 2010 probably Hummer H2 is an ideal pick for celebrities and stinking rich folks, not for the common man.

The wide, seven-slot grille and round headlamps mounted in square housings are signature HUMMER design elements.

The crew cab body shares H3 styling and components from the B-pillar forward, while the rear section of the cab and the separate bed are unique to The Hummer H3T. The five-foot bed is similar in design and function to GM's recently redesigned full-size trucks, including an easily removable tailgate and provisions for a bed-rail accessory system. A full-size spare tire is mounted beneath the bed.

The bed is sized to carry a wide range of popular outdoor necessities, from hauling motocross bikes to Baja, a quad to camp, or backcountry gear to the trailhead. One of the industry's largest portfolios of accessories complements The Hummer H3T's bed, offering different cargo management options to suit all of those lifestyle interests.

Accessories
One of the industry's broadest portfolios of vehicle accessories has been developed for The Hummer H3T. Centered on active lifestyles, items such as removable and lockable bed-mounted storage boxes; an adjustable bike chock that can be used to help secure mountain bikes or motorcycles; and a bed extender make full use of the standard bed-rail cargo management system. A range of additional accessories that improves off-road capabilities, provides passenger entertainment and enhances exterior styling is also available. There are more than 75 HUMMER Genuine Accessories offered.

In addition to the factory-developed accessory portfolio, HUMMER has partnered with top automotive aftermarket companies to develop more than 50 Officially Licensed HUMMER Accessories - a first for the brand. A variety of exterior enhancements, such as a Slant Back Bed Cover, hard tonneau covers and a winch are offered, along with cargo management solutions such as the BedSlide and bed divider, offering countless possibilities to personalize The Hummer H3T.

Interior
The Hummer H3T's crew cab cabin offers seating for five adults, with a 60/40-split rear bench seat that folds flat for increased cargo-carrying options. The cabin's layout is essentially identical to the acclaimed H3 SUV, with premium materials and attention to detail that give the vehicle a functional yet refined aesthetic.
Standard amenities also include air conditioning, power locks, power windows and remote keyless entry. An AM/FM radio with CD is standard and a premium Monsoon audio system is available. XM Satellite Radio also is standard and includes three months of trial service.

HUMMER's Rear Vision system and a navigation system are available. The Rear Vision system uses a camera mounted on the rear bumper, directly above the trailer hitch mount, to provide a view of objects directly behind the vehicle. Also, the safety and security of OnStar is standard, with Turn-By-Turn Navigation and hands-free Bluetooth connectivity available.

Powertrain
Standard in The Hummer H3T is the Vortec 3.7L I-5 with dual overhead cams and variable valve timing. This inline five-cylinder engine offers an excellent combination of power and efficiency, delivering 242 horsepower (180 kW) at 5600 rpm* and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (328 Nm) at 4600 rpm. It is backed by a five-speed manual transmission or an available four-speed, electronically controlled automatic.

The Hummer H3T Alpha's 5.3L engine is a powerful and efficient member of GM's legendary small-block V-8 family. It is rated at 300 horsepower (224 kW)* and 320 lb.-ft. of torque (434 Nm).* An aluminum cylinder block is used with the H3 Alpha's engine. It helps reduce overall mass and maintains a more desirable front-to-rear weight balance.

A Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission is paired with the 5.3L engine. Flat towing is enabled on all H3 and H3T models.

Chassis
The Hummer H3T's frame and suspension system are based on a stretched version of the H3 SUV's chassis and suspension - the same race-proven design found on Baja 1000-winning stock-class race trucks. The wheelbase measures 134.2 inches (3,409 mm) - 22 inches (86 mm) longer than the H3 SUV.

A ladder-type frame is the truck's foundation and it has a modular, three-piece design that incorporates fully boxed components for outstanding strength and stiffness. An independent SLA torsion bar front suspension and multileaf Hotchkiss-type rear suspension are used. There are two suspension packages available:
    * Z85 Heavy-Duty Handling and Trailering - This standard suspension delivers an excellent balance of on-highway comfort and off-road capability. It includes 32-inch all-terrain tires mounted on 16-inch, smoke-color steel wheels, specially tuned heavy-duty shocks and either a 4.56-ratio (3.7L) or 4.10-ratio (5.3L) rear axle.
    * Off-Road Adventure - Designed for more aggressive off-road performance, this optional suspension package includes taller, 33-inch tires, specifically tuned shocks, locking front and rear differentials, 4.03:1 low-range gearing in the transfer case and industry-leading crawl ratios of either 68.9 with the manual transmission or 56.2 with the automatic.

Off-road capability
The Hummer H3T lives up to HUMMER's legendary off-road reputation, with best-in-class extreme off-road capability. Highlights include:
    * Ability to climb a 60-percent grade and traverse a 40-percent side slope
    * Exceptional 10.2-inch (285 mm) ground clearance (with 33-inch tires)
    * 38.7-degree approach angle and 30.1-degree departure angle (with 33-inch tires)
    * Segment-first available front- and rear-locking differentials
    * Standard HUMMER Hill Hold Assist for improved hill ascension

"For most lifestyles, there's almost nothing The Hummer H3T can't handle," said Walsh. "It's a truck with HUMMER's immutable capability."

Complementing the features that enable The Hummer H3T's impressive off-road prowess are a host of first-class protective elements, including four standard skid shields: a front shield, an oil-pan shield/front-axle shield, a transfer case shield and a fuel tank shield.

Safety
Continuing HUMMER's tradition of delivering a broad range of safety systems, The Hummer H3T offers the following standard features:
    * Dual frontal air bags with GM's passenger sensing system
    * Head curtain side-impact air bags
    * StabiliTrak electronic vehicle stability control system
    * Four-wheel ABS with traction control
    * Tire pressure monitoring system
    * LATCH rear child seat anchors
    * OnStar with one-year Safe & Sound service
