Certainly making a big splash at last year’s SEMA Show with the world introduction of the 2010 Ford SVT Raptor, Ford is going one step further this year with the 2011 Ford Racing Raptor XT. This will be a limited production offering specially designed and engineered as a kind of super-Raptor that will sport a high-performance version of the all-new 6.2-liter V-8, reported to make 500 horsepower (Note: Ford just released standard 6.2-liter V-8 horsepower and torque numbers at 411 and 438, respectively).
Some at Ford are describing this new FR Raptor XT as a legitimate choice for Baja race teams for their guys to pre-run the actual race course, allowing them all the luxury benefits of a fullsize crewcab pickup truck, yet provide all the needed performance technology to get you through the dangerous stuff.
The Raptor XT will have more front and rear wheel travel than the regular SVT Raptor, and includes a fully integrated rollcage for added safety, as well as a new front locking differential (standard Raptors only have a rear locking differential). Other distinguishing details include a heavy-duty swing-out spare tire carrier in the bed, a row of KC pencil-beam lights on the front bumper, and a custom Ford Motorsports hood decal. Sources are saying the limited production will get snatched up pretty quick (totaling as few as 50 trucks) and bring a price tag somewhere between $100,000 and $125,000. The FR Raptor XT goes on sale mid-year 2010.
