2012 Hyundai Sonata New Performance Design
The 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in its class. Delivering up to 200 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2.4L gets a segment-leading 35 miles from every gallon of gas on the highway. This allows it to meet Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards, and in some states, a version even qualifies for Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) status. The 2012 Sonata 2.0T is a game-changer. This 4-cylinder twin scroll turbo pumps out 274 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque more than the V6 Camry, Accord and Altima. And at 34 highway MPG, blows them all away on fuel economy as well.
New 2012 Hyundai Sonata is dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) allows each engine intake and exhaust valve to be controlled independently, minimizing emissions and offering substantial gains in power. Paired with the Sonata Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), they optimize the air intake and boost torque, allowing the engine to be miserly with fuel, but not with performance.
The Sonata has more interior volume and cargo space than the Toyota Camry. More head room, more leg room in front, and thanks to specially designed recessed hinges, even a larger trunk. In other words: plenty of room for five, plus luggage. You can never be too safe when reversing. The view from the Sonata rearview camera is displayed on the central in-dash touchscreen, with guidelines that help direct you into tight spots and take the guesswork out of backing up.

2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid High Technology
The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid uses a polymer gel as the electrolyte in its battery. This allows for a thinner and lighter casing which translates to more cargo and interior volume. This next-generation battery is capable of delivering the same power with 25% less weight, 40% less volume and 10% more efficiency. It also discharges more slowly to maintain available power up to 1.7 times longer than traditional batteries. Hybrid engines are obviously different from standard car engines, and the Sonata Hybrid is different still from other hybrids. Using a fully parallel HEV system provides optimum power, with engine and battery power supply working simultaneously. Additional energy saving comes through the electric engine’s Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) function and an all-electric mode up to 74 mph.
The Sonata Hybrid engine-speed-sensitive, motor-driven power steering gives you more assistance at lower speeds (for parking) and makes the handling less touchy at higher speeds on the highway. The turning diameter is a tight 35.8 feet, curb-to-curb. The fully independent suspension, with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear, includes advanced SACHS Amplitude Selective Damping shock absorbers for added response and a smooth ride.
The Sonata Hybrid is different, but not eccentric. A raked roofline, modern design and 16-inch or available 17-inch alloy wheels lower aerodynamic drag while adding style. A unique front grille and LED headlight accents with daytime running lights also distinguish the Hybrid from its traditional counterpart. Front fog lights, LED tail lights and side mirror turn signal indicators increase visibility and appeal, while the Blue Drive badge shows you’re leading the way to lower emissions. Get your daily dose of sunshine, fresh air and vitamin D with the power tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof.
The Sonata’s navigation system makes it easy to get from A to B or locate points of interest such as gas stations and ATMs, with voice recognition or the interactive touchscreen. While XM NavTraffic and XM Data Services allow you to get a clear picture of traffic situations and check the weather, stocks and sports scores. In Hybrid Display Mode you can monitor your driving to make the most efficient use of the Hybrid Blue Drive System.
